Internet explorer as my Browser

For some reason I now have something called alOt as my browser instead of internet explorer and I would like to have IE back but seem unable to change it.
Tried the following
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Internet-Explorer-Your-Default-Internet-Browser
But only get as far as internet options then it goes back to alOt's home page.Why would this have changed and why cannot I get it back. Can someone advise.

I think you have the Alot toolbar installed. Have a look at the links for removal:

Hi Zak Have managed to get rid of it now how can I tell which version of IE I have it should be version 8

Find out which version of Internet Explorer you're using
This information applies to Windows Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Internet Explorer 8.

Open IE click on help then about. That will tell you what version you have.
