USB device needs formatting.....

.... but it doesn't

Has anyone seen this issue before? I have a 4Gb Kingston flash drive that works perfectly in my desktop pc (XP) and on another laptop that I've tried it with (Win 7), but on a third, newish laptop (Win 7) it generates a message that the drive needs formatting. It only occurs on that machine, which I need to take on a business trip. Any ideas folks?

I know I can use a different flash drive (Also tried and possible) but I'd like to solve the issue if possible and understand why it has occurred. Cheers

As long as you've backed up your Kingston drive have you tried a hard drive manager to format it to NTFS instead of Fat32?

All the Partition Managers will do USB drives on their latest versions.

eg Partition Wizard

NTFS may be an idea if just being used for PCs/laptops. ie on your business trip?

If you want to plug it into other devices, usually requires it to be FAT32

I know yours is a Kingston drive, but you might find a solution in the Sandisk Forum, a couple of the posts also recommend Fruit Bat's HP format tool.
