i closed the lid on my easy note lap-top before shutting it down, it started a wering noise , i switched it of, when i switched it on the mesage on the screen was, ( windows root system 32 ntoskrnl.exe.

If W/7 you can go to safe mode [keep tapping F8 or F5 as the computer starts and click on last good configuration and see if that helps.or System repair in safe mode.or try system restore.Or sfc /scannow in command prompt you do not need the W/7 CD to run it but you would need the XP Cd if using that.

None of those work you could try chkdsk in safe mode.Of course that it providing the the Notepad starts Ok.
