Xbox 360 Hdmi audio conundrum!

I have just bought an XBOX 360. I do not have a HDTV, but I do have a HD monitor with DVI-D and D-SUB inputs. I would like to play in HD on my monitor, but can not see how I would get the audio to play? I have a HDMI to DVI-D cable, but DVI does not carry audio so what would I do to get the audio to play over my desktop speakers? The monitor does not have audio, and the desktop speakers have the red and white RCA audio cables. Would I need some kind of splitter/converter?
I found something like this http://www.goo.gl/N1xDi but it seems fairly pricey and also outputs D-Sub which is not necessary...
Also, is there any visible difference between D-Sub and DVI-D?
I suppose I'm looking for this sort of layout: http://t.co/K9iotUFG
