Is there a critical size of hard drive for a particular Mother Board configuration, just as RAM limitation?
I have been given a 1999 IBM Thinkpad 770 It is in perfect working order with Win2000 It has 256Mb RAM with I gather is the max,. The hard drive is a massive 4 Gig As I have several 2.5 drives of 60gig and up laying around - any advantage in installing one of those?

If its old then the BIOS may have a limit of what size HDD it can see.
Just try fitting it and see if the HDD can detect it in BIOS

Its something to do with LBA (large Block address) and the limit may be 127G
