Load driver for IPOD Shuffle on new laptop / migration problem

Hi

I have just purchased a new laptop. I have 2 probs:

  1. When i plug in the ipod shuffle it is not recognised. do i need to install a driver? if so, can i download the install?

  2. i have loaded all my tunes from my ext HD to the itunes folder on my new laptop. however itunes then says it needs to convert them. this is taking hours and it appears to be duplicating the tunes. any ideas!?

Question 1: might be something here: Ipod.

Question 2: Did you back up the whole of the itunes folder to the external drive? If so then just replace the new itunes folder with the backed copy,which is what I generally do.
