building a pc for graphic art

Hi I'm a student studying illustration and living off my grant/loan. My laptop isn't really upto the task of running programs such as Photoshop, corel painter (and similar) due to limited upgradability and screen size.
I'd like to build a pc on an limited budget of around £4-500. Has any one recently built such a machine? or can recommend suitable components, I was thinking of an AMD based (an i7 would be nice) system to keep prices down.
I was planning to use win 7 64 bit as the os, so a suitable board + processor combo and graphics card are the main issues I need to consider. This will be the 3rd machine I have built but I have never built one for a specific purpose. Any help is much appreciated

Have you thought of something like this, http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/barebones/bb-i524gb.html add to it an OEM version of 7, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-OEM-software-intended-builders/dp/B004Q0PT3I/ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&qid=1324931356&sr=8-1
That leaves about £120 for graphics card assuming you have a Sata hard drive and optical drive.
