Will 3TB HD be OK in my PC

I've been offered an unused Hitachi 3TB SATA 3 HD at a very reasonable price but I'm not sure about the >2TB issue and whether or not SATA 3 is backward compatible with SATA 2. I've done a bit of digging and think the HD would be compatible but I can't try before buy as it is in the UK. Can anyone advise please?

My system: HP Pavilion 6799UK OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Processor: 3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5 650 64 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache 4096 kilobyte tertiary memory cache 64-bit ready Multi-core (2 total) Hyper-threaded (4 total) Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce GT420 Motherboard: MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) SATA 2 Bus Clock: 133 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 6.16 03/18/2011

Shouldn't be a problem with that setup.

For further clarification, there are 3 Gbps SATA controllers out there, too, and to take full advantage of a 3 Gbps SATA drive, you need a controller with that capability. But any 3 Gbps SATA drive will work in an older SATA controller (at slower speeds) and vice-versa.

Thans Fruit Bat. It will be used just for storage and backups so speed isn't important.
