Printing directly from a memory stick

I have an Epson SX400 all-in-one which has a memory card slot for directly printing photos, which works OK. Below that is a USB slot which is apparently for the same purpose. When a memory stick loaded with a photo is inserted the display reads "No memory card or disc inserted". What is this USB port really for? I would ideally like to use this feature to transfer a typed document directly to printer without using my PC - suppose that not possible as no W.P program present. Can I use the USB port for any purpose? Glen

Read 'Other Features' at the bottom of the page. I understand it will only print from memory cards and PictBridge enabled cameras otherwise.

USB port, you can plug in, and print from your camera screen, IF the camera is Pictbridge compatable.
