Hello, my laptops screen has suddently gone blank. You can just about see that it is on, but obviously its wrong. If you plug in another screen via the vid socket it's alive and well.
I guess the screen / backlight has blown but just checking there's nothing else it could be.
Thanks

You are probably correct in the assumption that the back ight or the associated 'Inverter'[ tube power pack- like a regular florescent tube -miniaturised]has died.
Doable your self if you are competent and have to right tools.

Also check lid switch is not stuck down.
Backlight or inverter screen is most likely to be OK
Make / model? hardest part is usually getting the bezel off rather than changing the parts :0)

Thanks all for your responses. Is it more likely to be the screen or the backlght ?

First half dozen how-to-links here give useful info.
More likely Inverter than CCFL lamp. But if lamp flickers, on power on, 'it's the lamp'
Inverters easy to replace, lamps need LCD stripdown. May be easier to replace screen with lamp.
Of course, could be the lid switch as FB says, or the wiring loom has flexed once too often with the hinges.
Good luck.
