best and easiest video editing prog to trim avi

hi all ive been downloading you tube clips of my fav artists and after converting them to avi to put on dvd i find that some of them have annoying bits at the front and end . can anyone suggest a prog that can trim and fade in and out but is easy to use, tried windows movie maker but it wont do exactly what i want

What wont wmm do it should trim ok or do you mean the burning to video part .Virtual dub is for editing avi files and is free http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub

Forgot to add you could just use dvd shrink to edit the files of the dvd best to rip the dvd back to the PC thopugh you should still have the Ios or the foder
