Use of speakers with Acer Revo R3610

Hi, I would like to use a pair of powered pc speakers with the R3610 but it does not have a speaker socket, only mic and headphones. Is it OK to connect to the headphone socket or will this cause damage? Alternatively is there some way of connecting them to a different port (there are usb, hdmi or spdif). Thanks.

Ignore my last post as I have realised it's not a laptop - however the principle is the same.

Hi northumbria61, thanks for the info. The link was helpful and as you say the principle is the same.
