Medion Akoya - Won't swith on... crazy quote to fix!

Hi people,

I am hoping that someone can potentially help me with an issue which I am having with my Medion Akoya as the repair shop are telling me it will cost £200 to repair... the laptop cost little more than this when I brought it. I think they are trying to pull a fast one.

Anyway the issue is that when I press the on button to boot up the blue light on the power switch flashes on for 3 seconds before disappearing and nothing happens and the laptop does not boot up. I am hoping someone may be able to shed light on this issue and tell me how I can fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help Jbone

Remove mains connection

Remove battery

Hold power button for 30 secs (gets rid of static on motherboard)

reconnect mains but not battery.

try to boot on mains only does anything happen?

Check the jack socket where you plug in the adaptor does this feel loose?

Can you borrow another mains adaptor to try? (surprising how many times these things fail but appear to be working).

Hi Fruit Bat

Thanks for the response.

I tried everything you said and still the same just flashes on and off after 3 seconds.

I then tried with a second mains charger and nothing again.

The Jack socket where you put the mains is not loose and doesn't feel loose but on the other side where the power button is this feels loose.. could this be the issue or?

Thanks again for the help

Best Jbone

Yes its possible but means laptop strip to examine.

I would certainly get more quotes to repair

If you are near Walsall there is a Akoya repair shop there http://akoyatech.co.uk/about-us.html

Thanks Fruit Bat.

Do you think there is anyway I could look at it myself and if so how would I go about it?

Stripping a laptop is not an easy job!!!

but if you have nothing to lose...

There are no manuals I can find on google only a video for renewing the keyboard.

Hi Jbone , found this :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXkaFRSANNo&feature=related although it is in German it is an Akoya & maybe helpful (video wise) if you are going to have a go yourself. Good luck Nipsen

Being realistic, if you have never opened the innards and have no knowledge of the workings of a laptop, what will you be looking at/for?
