Wharfdale dvd recorder

Our Wharfdale dvd recorder does not want to switch on at all. A few months ago we connected our external hard drive to the tv and this dvd recorder to watch a movie. Afterwards we realised that there was a virus on the external hard drive and our IT technician has cleaned it in the mean time. Can it be that this virus has now affected the dvd player?

Where you put a disk in - when it is working it normally shines blue and if you are recording it shines red but now is just shines red. The device does not want to perform any functions at all - no switching on or off. My IT technician said in the mean time that it is not a virus.
