any recommendations for external hard drive?

any recommendations for an external hard drive to back up my data (having lost two, non-backed up hard drives in as many years I've finally learned my lesson). Not a lot of data, mostly photos. I've got a 250MB hard drive in a Dell laptop, if that makes any difference.

Is external storage better/safer/easier to recover than say Windows 7 back up facility?

Thanks Michael

Shop around for 500GB or 1TB drives. The prices since Thailand floods have gone silly.

Standard 1TB ext USB 2.0 a few weeks ago was £40.

External drives are the preferred means of backing up and Imaging main computer drives.

This is the sort of thing that would be suitable (£60 ain't bad at this time?)
