Problem with camera

I have connected my digital camera to my laptop but the camera is not being recognised which means that I cannot transfer my photos to the laptop.

I go into Windows Live Photo Gallery and click the import button but the camera does not appear. I click the refresh button but the camera still does not appear in the “Import Photos and Videos” box.

Can anyone please help with this?

Many thanks

A little more info on the camera would help?

Sometimes you need to load the program supplied with the camera to be able to transfer pictures.

The easiest way would be to remove the memory card from the camera and put it into the card reader of your laptop.

Does the camera appear in "My Computer"?
