i have 2x2gb of ram in my pc if i get 2x4gb of ram will it work as well

Depends on your OS, for instance XP will only accept up to 3.2Gb RAM. Win7 will accept much more, so if you have Win7 maybe worth a try.

Windows 7 will only see more RAM if you are using the 64 bit version,otherwise it is much the same as XP and will only use around 3 and half gigabyte. So if your operating system is 32 bit either XP or Windows 7 then your 4 GB is more than enough.
