Hotmail Inbox mail will not open

When I open Hotmail.co.uk and go to the inbox all my mail is shown (Old mail and new mail. But when any mail is selected it will not open and the circular timer runs continuously. On taskmaster only the Hotmail program is running. P.C. O.S. is Vista. I have run AVG Virus, Malaware Bytes and Windows Defender and none show any virus or malaware. Can anyone suggesthow to detect what is running in the background and preventing mail being opened.

you could look in Task manager >applications and also processes see if anything is hogging the system

Thanks eedcam, Checked in Taskmaster. 1st Applications, only Hotmail running. 2nd Processes,very little usage of CPU. 3rd Performance, graph fluctating up to 75%. Did the following: Went to 'Options' at top right of Hotmail page, and when that page opened I selected 'Inbox'. The inbox opened again and then allowed all mail to be opened and the circular timer was no longer showing. Taskmaster 'Performance' now only 7% - 25%. At least I can now open mail, but not entirely sure why this procedure works.
