My windows 7 PC will not assign a drive letter to my 500 gb Western digital hard drive so I can not view the contents or backups, tried there web site support and Microsoft different options no joy, it will work on my windows vista laptop,any help please.

Try Partition Wizard

Right click partition, Change Letter. OK, Apply (main screen).

Note: Change letter is not shown for some partitions if restricted (eg my C drive doesn't show that option)

Also I am not sure this is a definitive answer to your problems (since it works in Vista).

It's quick to try though.

Post back with more info if probs.

Thanks robinofloxley for your reply but found out the answer was click start right click computer click manage click disk management, on the external drive click to highlight click on the action tab all tasks click change drive letter and paths and follow the instruction to assign a drive letter, it now shows when I click my computer. thank you once again for your reply.
