I installed Ubuntu on a hard drive that already had Win XP Pro on it. I used to get the option of choosing the OS. to boot from. Now on startup I get an error message. 'Error: no such device:41c19407-a0a1-41a5-ac2b-f5648a896803 grub rescue _ Any ideas ?

First thing to check - Start - Search (or RUN) - type msconfig - Boot Tab - check to see if you have 2 OS listed.

the problem hard drive was one of four installed. although it wouldnt boot I could access the files from another hard drive.I transferred everything I wanted from the problem hard drive to another location. re-installed XP Pro on the problem drive having disabled the other 3 hard drives.
