A celeron laptop is running very slowly and I have found that there are about 1000 entries in device manager. I have gone into safe mode but can only remove 1 entry at a time. Does anyone know how to remove 1000 copies of 4to6 adaptor in one go.

EAiest way is to

  1. back up all your drivers using a diver backup program

  2. Open Regedit and back up the registry

  3. Navigate to the key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Enum Right click on the Enum folder icon and choose Delete, OK on the confirm. Close out Regedit. Shut down windows and then reboot. This will clear ~all~ the old hardware settings for the machine.

  4. When you boot, windows will run it's Hardware/PnP detector to find all your hardware. you can point it to the driver backup folder if necessary.

Unfortunately there is no trace of Enum either where you say or anywhere else that I can find in the registry. Using search it finds combinations of letters which together you can get enum from them but nowhere that I can find on its own.

Sorry my mistake Enum is no longer used in Vista.

You may be better doing a repair install.

try running a command prompt and type

netsh interface ipv6 6to4 set state disabled

this will disable the 6to4 adaptor wich is causing the slow down.
