AVG 2012 problem

Yesterday I got an automatic update/upgrade of my AVG 2011 to AVG 2012. Today my MS Office programs won't run ... too much of a coincidence?

I tried to uninstall MS Office with a view to reinstalling from the MS Web site, but it wouldn't uninstall (error message to do with MS Click-to-view), and I tried Repair, as per advice on the MS Web site, but my PC just hung.

I then realised that both AVG 2012 and AVG 2011 show up as shortcuts on my desktop. AVG 2012 is active when I start up, but 2011 can be started if I click on its shortcut icon. So I went to uninstall AVG 2011, but it doesn't show in the list of programs. I've now uninstalled AVG 2012, which does feature in the list of programs when I go to Control Panel > Install/Uninstall, and my MS Office programs are working again. That's without any AVG program running.

Anyone else had this problem? I'm hoping I'll be able to get AVG 2011 running again for my protection.

Maybe I confused you about the Firewall - I misread your first post "I tried Repair, as per advice on the MS Web site" - I was thinking you had connected to MS Office online via the help button within the program therefore thinking the firewall was blocking - not the case. There is no setting in AVG that would block your using of MS Office offline - looks like a conflict somewhere. Pleased to hear things are running okay again.

Maybe it's not AVG 2012 ...

After leaving the PC off for a while this afternoon, Excel and Word no longer work. That's despite the fact I've got Avast instead of AVG 2012.

So now I'm trying to uninstall MS Office completely, but I can't. I get a "click-2-run configuration error" message and, checking about it on the internet I find it's a common problem. But I can't find any solution.

I've downloaded MS Office Home and Student trial version from the MS web site, but it won't install, presumably because of this click-2-run thing and the fact I've not uninstalled the current copy.

So, it's beginning to look like a complete reformat of my C:\ drive will be needed, unless there's an easier solution. One insurmountable problem seems to be that click-2-run has creates a Q:\ drive, which can't be accessed or deleted.

I've just uninstalled Avast, and MS Office works again, just like it did when I uninstalled AVG. Not sure if that info helps with finding a fix.
