I want to convert a .avi file to a smaller file format.

Hello

I have had a frustrating couple of hours playing with Camtasia screen recorder. The .avi file it produces is way to large to send by email. It has a convert to .swf facility but the quality is dreadful.

Do you know what other file format I could convert to and still get "reasonable" quality?

You do not say what size your file is, but is there anything here to help,rather than send it via Email?

avi files are compressed. You could use Windows Movie Maker to convert to a wmv file which may be smaller. Or convert to mpeg. However any video file of any quality/length is going to be large for e-mail.

Try this free version out, but decline the update offer when it starts up, in my experience allowing the update broke the program ? left as is it seems to work very well

Download and send it vis this program "Yousendit" https://www.yousendit.com/?myaccount=true, there is a limit, but it is a lot larger than Email.
