RealPlayer a real pain

Am trying to play some video on my PC but when I do I get 'RealPlayer needs to download new software to play this clip', which I do and install. When I go to play the video I get the same message and so the cycle continues. Questions. Why do I need RP to play video and why do I get the same message ad infinitum? Is there a solution or will my video never play?

VLC...Click here...there are many free players, of which this is just one.

Try Preferences> Content> Media Types> Select " make Media Player my universal media player

Thanks for the replies but I did say that the video needed RealPlayer to play.

ok problem solved. RealPlayer didn't install properly.
