Microsoft security essentials updates ?

Having problems updating this when i click on update says searching but wont update any ideas

I do not use it but as a suggestion, dowload latest version to a folder. Uninstall current MSE; reinstall from the folder.

Make sure you are still on-line when updating.

Still on line when i try to update but will not update, have uninstalled it and no problems reinstalling but still will not update

Check the time and Date on your PC, if it is incorrect that would probably be the cause of your problem.

A further thought - if your date/time is prone to unwanted changes, that would indicate that your CMOS battery (also referred to as the Real Time Clock battery) needs replacing.
