Windows Shutdown

Hello, my WinXP Pro PC is failing to complete the shutdown process. When I go to Start/Shutdown/Turn off, it goes through all the shutdown stages up to the last stage where it says "Windows is Shutting Down", then it remains hanging in there forever. I've been trying to figure out why it does not completely power down as it used to. Any help? What do I do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

There is a Registry Tweak if you feel confident to edit the registry - simple to follow - make a backup of your registry first just to be on the safe side - enter link description here
