Hi everyone, first thanks for looking at this post. I tried upgrading my memory that was originally 1.5 GB with two slots of DDR2 ram. I tried using PC2-6400 1GB (new) and the old PC2-5300 1GB. The computer wouldn't start with it in and made beeping noises. Should I be using two cards of the same mhz?

Your computer needs DDR2 PC2-5300 (667MHz) RAM in both slots.

Excellent thanks for that will try that. I don't suppose you know if my pc can hold 3GB with the current operating system of Vista 32 bit? I have seen on HP site that it could hold a maximum of 4GB with a 64 bit OS but it says 2GB with the 32 bit OS although further down it says that a 32 bit OS cannot run with memory over 3,5 GB?

Go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/ and run the scanner it will tell you what your motherboard will take and suggest suitable upgrades.
I am running XP with 4Gb ram installed but only 3.5Gb is recognised as that is the limit for 32bit. If I install a 64bit Op Sys then all 4Gb would be recognised.
