Clear out & reboot of WindowsXP

I read a proposal to clear out & reinstall WXP operating system as a means of cleaning "C" drive. If I were to move all my documents to the next partition (which I have anyway as backup) am I still able to get the full service packs & last updates. I went from updateCD to WXP then updateCD to service pack3. Do I uninstall service pack3 as as the first move then repair/reinstall the basic XP. Please can you advise on the best procedure.

See here

Once you have formatted the drive and reinstalled XP then install the service packs and any drivers you need and antivirus / antimalware to connect to the internet. Once connected windows will then auto update the remainig updates issued after SP3

Just install SP3 then any other updates that came after it was issued.
