hivesys.inf stalls setup of xp

hi i have been trying to install xp home on my brothers pc but setup stall when it reaches hivesys.inf with no explanation can anyone help thanks Chippy

What CD are you using?

Is this a clean install or are you installing over another copy or OS?

Installing other than on a formatted drive can cause this problem.

Are you entering the number correctly?

If it is a slipstreamed copy it is likely the copy is corrupt - if a fake XP CD then the same may be true.

hi johndrew thanks for the reply yes i have two xp home discs both are legal i dont get far enough to put an number in and yes the disc has been formated ted there seems to be a lot of thie sort of error on google but no answers thanks again Chippy

Did you boot from the xp home disc and then do a full format (not the quick) or was the Harddrive formatted in some other way?

I can only think that your DVD's are scratched (both of them..?) so I would try to borrow one to use with your product key. It's the product key that counts for the legal (genuine) part - not the actual DVD (which can be copied quite freely)

Or maybe the HDDrive has a fault, have you another you could try?

Out of interest what make and model of pc is it?
