Cannot get rid of fonts!

I have been trying to slim down the number of fonts on my computer but I have found lots of Asian/Arabic fonts which are taking up a large section of the file. However when I try to delete these I get the message that these are protected and cannot be deleted. Has anyone any idea why I can't get rid of these or is there some other method of scrapping them. I am running Windows 7 Professional if that makes any difference.
