new motherboard

Hi I am looking to get a new motherboard. After many computer problems I think I tied the problem to the motherboard. I replaced the ram with my mates still crashing then I used his graphic card and it still crashes.

So a new mobo it is. I am only after a cheap one as I cant afford a upgrade. I currently have a Penryn1600SLI-110dB, 280gtx, 2x 2gn gdr2 sticks and a e8500 intel cpu

Your RAM looks fine, your MOBO page at Asrock does not have a RAM support list which most modern motherboards have now. But it is an older board so not unexpected.

I think that,as I said earlier, its a driver issue, I would suggest doing a clean instal of XP then installing all the latest drivers/updates for your board and operating system and hope that that sorts it. Get another Mobo, they are cheap enough for a socket 775 these days. Or save up until you can afford something a bit better with a new CPU.

OK, a couple of questions:

What wattage is your power supply?

Are your hard-drives IDE or Sata?

Great with a Sata hard-drive you are not restricting your choice as most modern boards have done away with IDE sockets.

One more thing though what about your optical drive? IDE or Sata?
