extremly slow laptop

I have HP laptop. It has become extremely slow. Booting takes nearly 45 min. program loading is also extremely slow. I formatted HD & reinstalled os but no use. pls suggest reasons & remedy

For a start, what model of HP laptop? After reinstalling OS did you reinstall all the laptops drivers? How much RAM have you? Have you added any since you have had the laptop?

modle # nc6120. RAM 516MB. All drivers installed. it is 5 yrs old laptop

That sounds incredibly slow. You might want to try a few of these things...: Delete as many old programs and files as possible. Try cleaning your machine of all dust and dirt, especially the cooling fans. Try running a defrag with a very powerful defragger like diskeeper, to keep your files in good order. Depending on how old it is you might need a new battery or power adaptor.
