I have an old telly which my son is using at uni it only has two scart connections at the back of it, so how can he connect his laptop to this?

You need to search VGA (or HDMI) to SCART Converter.

BUT...VGA and HDMI are digital

and

SCART (or S-Video/Composite if the telly has those)are analogue.

So the cheap cables don't work. You need a Converter box and these typically cost 10's or many 10's of pounds and quality ain't great.

Probably easier to buy a new cheap flat screen with VGA/PC/HDMI inputs.
