Sony NWZ X1060 Walkman - Using WiFi in hotels

When using my Walkman in a hotel, I find that I cannot login because the player does not display the hotel welcome screen, but only a blank screen. I do not have the problem if I can connect directly to the internet when I can simply type in a url without logging on. I have contacted Sony who responded that "This product does not support the connection you describe", however I suspect that this is more a case of 'can't be bothered' as it is not a current model.

Has anyone who owns one of these found a way to solve this problem, which I suspect is similar with other Walkmans.
