Open Office spellcheck problem

I have both a desktop and laptop computer running Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit respectively. I have the latest Open Office installed on both machines, on the Desktop all is fine but on the laptop I cannot get it to Spellcheck properly. It checks every single word, which is far from satisfactory. I have Googled the problem but got lost with the replies I got.Is this a problem with 64 bit versions if not any suggestions please. I currently have to copy the documents onto a memory stick and take it to the other PC to check the spelling etc.
