Messenger closes after sign on

Hi

When i sign into the messenger application (not via a browser) it disappears. I then have to re-open it and then it is signed in and working OK. is there a setting i need to tick which says "keep open after sign on"?

Have googled and others have had similar problems, except theirs crashes - mine isnt crashing, app is working fine, it just closes!

I've had the same problem for some time - usually it just closes but sometimes it freezes the PC. This only happens on my W7 PC - XP is fine. It also causes log-off to fail and I have to press the restart button and, after reboot, it will shut down OK. I have been having an email conversation with Microsoft but, as yet they have not been able to find a cause, or solution so I have uninstalled it for the time being.

Had an update yesterday for Windows live essentials using W/7 64 bit.

Maybe you also need that update.
