Remote access to laptop

I am wondering if there is a way of connecting remotely to a laptop? My fiancee and I have bought a laptop for her parents so they can use skype and the internet. They are in Serbia and because they are fairly illiterate when it comes to laptops, I would want to log in once in a while (like every 3 months or when they say something is wrong) to update software, run spybot etc. Basically keep it on track.

Is there software I can install to log on remotely? We both have windows 7.

Thanks
