XP won't start

I'm running windows xp on my pc. Now it won't boot up and says."Isass.exe-Unable to locate component" "The application has failed to start. because" what can i do?

Uncca, apologies for going off topic.
Woodchip is quite right in that he can get to safe mode via F5. As I stated previously it depends a lot on the bios. My desktop had XP previously and F8 brought the BBS page. Further tapping of F8 will get to the Ad OP menu. I used F5 to go to the A O Menu page. I've now installed Win 7 and F8 still brings up the temporary boot order page up. F5 bring the diagnostic page up then F8 goes into the A O Menu.

I have just tried it on the XP machine I am using at the moment and it works with both, so Uncca can you get it to boot into safe mode?
All this bickering is not helping the poster sort the problem!!!
