another netbook question

when on an aircraft it it possible to use a netbook if so how would i be able to plug it in to any of the various sockets on the seat arm or is it battries only.

I've used mine onboard, but the only sockets for power were USB (and that was in business).

If its like mine on power you only need your battery. I think you could fly a long way in 7 hours or more

No, you can't run off usb.

My Samsung Netbook boots up with wireless running. I know how to turn it off so no problem really, but if I forgot would it be a problem regarding the aircraft safety?.

Erm, you're on the plane. For your own safety, please don't forget. :-)

Regarding aircraft safety, it's analogous to the monthly Microsoft security updates. For most users, the unpatched security hole might never get infiltrated. If and when it does, major problems can occur.

Gigagigles, "Erm, you're on the plane. For your own safety, please don't forget. :-)" I agree with what you say and I have always remembered, but I was just curious if it was extremely dangerous. There is no point in it being on. I have endeavoured to find out from Samsung if there is a way for the Netbook to be booted with wireless switched off, but I understand that is not possible.

I fly quite frequently. You could look at disabling wireless/WiFi on the laptop/netbook before boarding the plane. I believe you need to have the device powered down to go through security but once in the lounge you can power up, disable networking (either in Control Panel or a switch/ button on front of edge of the device).

If you want to run on battery, I would recommend using the Power Management options to turn down screen brightness, etc to give you the best run-time on battery as possible. Also you could look at purchasing an extra battery or a high capacity version.
