IE9 or Firefox

OS Windows 7

I have only just got IE8, but still prefer to use Firefox 5.0.1. Microsoft wants me to 'update' to IE9. I thought I'd check in with you guys first for your opinions?

Just download it, suck it and see. You don't have to use it, its just there. Personally I prefer IE9, Firefox is looking pretty jaded to me. I just have google open in a seperate window for searches.

In the past I always used Opera. However recently got a new computer running Windows 7 and it came with IE9. I now prefer IE and have virtually dropped Opera. The only thing I miss is the one step log on via the little key on Opera.

Sorry the link did work earlier so not sure why it is not working now.

The Google search add on is for accelerators and I am looking for it to be in Search providers.

I already did and it made no difference.

Maybe I have this wrong. If I type a web address that I want into the address bar and press search it just opens the history of the websites that I have visited and I have to go to the bottom left of that and I have a choice of opening with Bing or Google and that works.

Maybe that is the way everyone has to do it I am not sure. But I would not think so.

It also has a button on the bottom right which says add.And that takes you to other search providers but Google is not amongst them.

I have downloaded it and removed it a few times from different sites but they all say Enabled but not available.

There is a button underneath that you can usually press to make it available but it does not work.

I will try another reset to see if that works but already tried it last week and it did not work.

I can manage without it it is just that it is not working correctly that bothers me.

I'm not sure if I have your problem right, but, if I type in a web address, say "www.pcadvisor.co.uk" with out the speech marks and click the arrow or press return, I go directly the web site. If I want to search for that web site, I type in say "pcadvisor.co.uk" with out the speech marks and press return, the search engine comes in and gives all the answers.

Does that help you?

buteman - I think that you had better start your own thread about this as we've hijacked the original one. You do not appear to have the same set up as the rest of us.

"buteman - I think that you had better start your own thread"

No problem on this occasion, it is connected loosely. Also I'm getting an insight into potential problems with an IE that as yet I haven't decided on.

I've never tried Opera, but what you say sounds intriguing. You make it sound like 'Pandoras Box'.
