Trouble with wi-fi connection

I have a BT Home Hub and two laptops. If I sit in my conservatory (8mtrs away from Home Hub) I can receive a wi-fi connection on my Acer laptop, but not on my Toshiba. If I hold the Toshiba through the doorway, it will work. Is it a problem that the modem is not as good as the Acer and is there any way that I can boost the signal from the Hub easily.

I think the modem is not as good in the laptop. You could use the plugs that plug into mains to connect to your router

Hi Fruit Bat. Thanks for your reply. I have checked all the channel settings and it is set on channel 11. Just moving the laptop by twelve inches gets me a signal, so maybe the modem in the computer is not as receptive as the one in my Acer.
