no blue screen, no message, no anything...

Hi, a friend at work told me that his 2 year old Desktop PC just shows a black screen when turned on. The hard drive is spinning+the light is on on the PC but no message on the monitor, just a black screen. The monitor works fine with another computer. Please could someone tell me could this be a Ram problem? It is an XP OS and was 'made'/constructed at a local computer shop (not a big name shop). Thank you.

If the monitor works on a different PC and it is booting up but not showing on the display then it is a graphics problem. Check monitor connections, check that graphics card if fitted is seated correctly.

Could be Ram, PSU, Graphics card, in short a lot of things.

If it's under any form of guarantee take it back to the shop.

If not, and you are familiar with pcs then open the case ( earth strap worn at all times and unplugged from mains and monitor)

Locate the graphics card, gently unseat, clean fan (if present) reseat in slot.

Locate memory modules, gently unseat, reseat in slot(s)

Check for any loose connections, remove dust.

Try to boot again.

If that fails, post back

Does the Power Supply light on the Monitor come on when attached to his PC?

If it were the graphics Card, when the Monitor is getting Power, it would show some sign indicating that there was no signal.

So check it's power supply ~ It may have been turned off somewhere along its route.
