Try repositioning the router near a window. I live in a house with 24 inch thick stone walls and have no problem on the side of my house where my hub is situated.

Have a read of this thread http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/1/helproom/4057785/extend-wireless-signal/
or try moving the router to a room nearer the garden

I was gobsmacked to learn that 30m of Cat5 cable can now be widely had for a fiver. (This weeks BBC Click throwaway line)
So I Googled and 'tis true. Brings to mind all sorts of possibilities.
You could put router in back room/dining room and trail out of window/conservatory to garden, as an example of 'summer thinking'. Or cable the whole house for peanuts. (cut the ends off 30m patch cords)
Of course you could do it properly with £20+ wireless extenders etc.
