wireless adapter instead of networking card

A defect router fried the networking card on my laptop. Can I buy a wireless networking adapter and use instead of the networking card to get net access quickly? And if yes, what to do to disable networking card?

Just buy a USB Wireless 'dongle', and plug and play.

Yes, if you have a "wireless" router you can connect the Laptop to it with a USB Wireless Network Adapter. I use one of these with my Laptop.

"what to do to disable networking card?"

Go into the Network Connections folder ("Start > Run", type ncpa.cpl and click OK), right click the Local Area Conenction and select Disable.
