hssutton's link (I believe) only refers to a 32 bit system.

Therefore, if you're running a 64 bit machine, the instructions in the link may not work.

Also in the link, it mentions the use of the native Linux application GIMP.

Unless you are doing very specialised work, GIMP should be everything you need in an image manipulation program. There are plenty of YouTube videos on just about anything you want to do, so give it a try.

Generally speaking, try and use native Linux applications, as trying to get Windows applications to run on a Linux system, (whilst not impossible), can be a lesson in frustration.
