external hard drive not accessable since pc reformatted

i have 2 samsung story hard drives, and i have recently reformatted my pc with win xp sp3 and now 1 of my hard drives wont work, the pc recognizes it but wont let me access it, and now when i connect it 2 my laptop which has win7 that 2 now doesnt recognize the same drive , but if i connect it 2 my media player its fine, any help would be greatly appreciated

After decrypting your question I think your newly formatted PC has a lack of codecs so might not be able to "see" what is on your external drives if they only contain document such as DVDs and Music. Wild guess but install codecs from File Hippo then reboot.
