damaged drivers for cd/dvd rom

hi lost internet connection error in tray says lan connection unplugged but changed lead to modem twice seems like socket on computer no separate network card fitted, also drivers for cd/dvd roms show fault in design manager yellow markers so cannot re install dell recovery disk or re install anything help help i have to use friends computer to send this windows xp dell 4600 chas

Hi Latest is things seem to have recovered a lot better now apart from a few funnies. The registry fix seemed to now work but some advice from other forum was to set IMAPI which I set to auto but not really sure if this is correct but things look a lot better. Latest oddity is when replying in e-mail I get message "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." but e-mail sends ok, probably needs e-mail settings adjusted. Thanks for interest everyone
