Open a video sent from smart phone

How do I open a video file sent to me from a HTC Desire smart phone? getting error "cannot open file set new association for the file".

WAS it recorded on th phone? If so it will be 3gp

HTC Video supported formats:

* Playback:.3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv
* Recording:.3gp

VLC will play it and just about anything else as well

The newer versions of Nero will play them.

Thanks guys I got it playing on VLC, however the video has been taken sideways is there a way in VLC to rotate it?

I will go back and look to see if I can find it,but thought someone here may know.
