Basic information needed concerning a sound card

Hello

My motherboard had a built in sound card, but it has died.

I dont need anything fancy, what should I be looking for please?

Are you sure it died,go into device manager uninstall the sound card drivers then restart your PC and see what happens.You just may have inadvetantly messed up the doundcard,worth a try and you could save the cost of a soundcard.

No the on board sound card is dead for sure, when I play anything the sound breaks up and gets distorted.
