Poor sound quality

Hi you Guys. I hope one of you experts can help me with the following problem. My family bought me a machine that transfers Vinyl records to Cds. I tried it out yesterday and was very impressed. When I logged on this morning to download a photography tutorial the sound was terrible. It was distorted and sounded as though it was coming from a tunnell. Has anyone got a constructive suggestion please? Many thanks, garden nome
